Heroism is overrated. It is always movements that lead to large-scale change, though our dominant cultural narrative of change focuses on individuals. It is not naive to think you can change the world, it is naive to think you could be in the world and not change it, but that change happens in community.
David LaMotte is a songwriter, speaker and author. He has performed over 3500 concerts and released thirteen full-length CDs of primarily original music, as well as four books, touring in all of the fifty states and on five of the seven continents over his 35-year career.

Dinner parties can change the world; and in an age of scrolling, shouting, and disconnection, that might be the most radical idea of all. In this TEDx talk, Ashley Berger explores how simple acts of hospitality—like inviting someone over for dinner—can foster real human connection, reduce loneliness, and create meaningful community. By shifting away from perfection, performance, and comparison, she shows how gathering around the table becomes an act of courage, presence, and hope. This talk is a powerful reminder that we don’t need more noise—we need more tables, more invitations, and more moments of genuine connection.

We’re excited to welcome guest speaker Alex Viera, a nervous system coach and occupational therapist who works with children, families, and women to help them reduce chronic stress and create meaningful change through simple daily practices.
In her talk, “How to Do Less and Feel More Regulated Than Ever,” Alex will share powerful yet practical tools to help women entrepreneurs manage overstimulation, regulate their nervous systems, and find more calm and clarity in their busy lives.
As entrepreneurs and creatives, we often carry a lot — mentally, emotionally, and physically. Alex will walk us through small, simple shifts that can create big transformation in how we experience work, life, and stress.

All Writing is Fantasy: a Q and A discussion with a local writer
Bio: Nancy Werking Poling writes from her home in Black Mountain. Her most recent books include Leander's Lies, a historical novel set in the Appalachian foothills; While Earth Still Speaks, an environmental novel; and Paradise Affirmed: stories of scandal and virtue at Happy Corner Church, linked short stories. Her fiction and creative non-fiction have appeared in numerous literary journals.
