The Holman pays homage to a former use of the house when it was called ā€˜The Holman Apartments.’ We are unsure of its exact use at this time, but it was somewhere between a small community and a Boarding House. The Holman family were large land owners in the early 1900’s in Black Mountain. It it unclear the exact tie to 406 W State Street, but the Holman University, which resided in Black Mountain for just two years from 1904-1906. The aim of Holman Christian University, according to the college catalog was ā€œto make it possible for every ambitious boy and girl in this part of the country to get an education, and we believe we have solved the problem!ā€
